The CS Café Interview
Get ready to be inspired!
Meet Prashanth Jothi, Customer Success Manager at Hubspot, Dublin who has a career trajectory that's nothing short of extraordinary.
From India to Singapore, Moscow, and now Dublin, Prashanth's diverse background in product marketing and sales has shaped him into the successful CSM he is today.
In this interview, he takes us on a journey of how he found his passion in helping customers solve problems, the importance of teamwork and collaboration in ensuring customer success, and his proudest moment as a CSM.
Plus, he shares life advice for his younger self and some fun hobbies outside of work. So buckle up and join Prashanth on his incredible journey!
Can you give us a quick rundown of your background and where you're from?
Sure thing. I’m originally from India. Moved to Singapore for my Master's in International Business. After which I got a job in an advertising agency as a Product Marketing & Research Executive. Was there for 4 yrs until I moved to Moscow to work remotely for a startup as a Product Marketing Manager. HubSpot was always on my radar so I thought of giving Sales a shot after which I moved internally to be a Customer Success Manager. So my career trajectory has been a like a flywheel - Attract > Engage > Delight. Loving it so far :)
How did your background shape you into the Customer Success Manager role?
My diverse experience in Product Marketing and Sales certainly benefited me in becoming a better CSM. I can consult my customers in a much better way because I’ve been in their shoes. Also, the fact that I work in HubSpot, (a CRM company) exposes me to the entire business processes. This has allowed me to gain a good mix of competencies & experience to become a successful CSM. From how to best communicate the value of a product, to developing strong communication/negotiation skills and seamlessly working cross-functionally is a great combo to solve for the customer.
What lights you up and gets you excited about your job and the customer success industry?
Gosh, there are so many things that excite me about this role. It's such a rewarding job. I truly enjoy the strategic consulting side of the role. I like to help people and the CSM role allows me to help people solve problems they are facing, help them get questions to answers they might be pondering, help them be more efficient, help get a raise or promotion (my fav) or just simply help ease their frustration. CSM role is relatively new and rapidly evolving which excites me and I foresee immense growth opportunities.
How do you see teamwork and collaboration in making sure customers are successful?
Teamwork and collaboration play a vital role in ensuring that customers are successful in their use of a product/service. I always go back to refer to this equation, Customer Success = Desired Outcome + Appropriate Experience. To do this effectively, we need to collaborate with other teams within the organization, including sales, marketing, and product development. The goal is for the customer not to feel/experience our internal system/structure when solving for them, but instead have a seamless customer experience, and that's when we know our teamwork & collaboration is working well.
Can you share with us a proud moment you had with a customer?
This question really made me reflect on my time as a CSM. Never really thought about it until now. I think one of the proud moments I had with a customer was when I built such a good relationship with her, after she moved to another company, she advocated for HubSpot, implemented it in her new company, and requested for me as her CSM.
What drew you to join my newsletter and what do you enjoy the most about it?
Firstly because I know you haha :) After we connected on a call, I got to know how genuine & generous you are. It translates into your newsletter as well. It’s practical and helpful for CSMs in any season of their career.
If you could go back in time, what life advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell myself that working right trumps finding the right work.
Any hobbies outside work or interesting facts not everyone knows about you?
I love to surf but Dublin is definitely not the place for it. I'm big on moving my body whether it's Taekwondo, Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, etc.
How can people connect with you and stay up to date on your latest work and thoughts?
I’m on LinkedIn every single day. So the best way to reach out to me would be via LinkedIn DMs or comments on my post. I post every day so feel free to engage. Happy to connect with folks to talk about everything CS and more!
Enjoying my newsletter?
The best thing you can do for me is to like, comment, or say a few nice words on social media 🤩
I’ll speak to you again next Sunday.
Until then, take care, friends!

Remote work is the future key to organizational & customer success. Leadership refuses to acknowledge this fact yet has no issue s capitalizing upon the results. My own organization, the top performers aren't burdened with commuting . They work remotely 100% of the time....
The hypocrisy is glaring and creates hard feelings among those forced to drag themselves into the office.
